The huge church of The Frari- the Brothers- dates from the 15th century, and was founded by the Franciscans. It contains some very important works of art. So much loved this place that it is in the top three of the churches I saw in Italy. It was lovely and I would definitely recommend it. Also agree with the other writer regarding seeing the few main attractions there in Venice then get out and just walk around and see what you come across. Go see St Mary... more
The other reviews do not do justice to this remarkable hidden jewel of Venice. The sculptures, crypts, magnificent paintings and the haunting edific of the black slaves over a doorway remain in my thoughts. The church is magnificent , but the art work - stunning. Definitely a MUST see. more
Located in the middle of the left bank of Venice. One of the larger churches in Venice. Does allow photos to be taken (no flash allowed). Was established in the 14th Century by the Franciscan Friars. The interior of this church is not to be missed, plus if your visit to Venice is on a Sunday this is one of the few churches open, as is the Scuolo next to it. more
